Well the busy holidays have come and gone and 2017 is here. It's time to get back to work. Typically our biggest investment is our home. It is good to have a month by month maintenance schedule in place so that we never getting behind on protecting our biggest investment. We hope these things will keep your home running smoothly.
Here is a list of maintenance items for January to help you get started.
Help Your Home Be Energy Efficient
Change furnace and refrigerator water filters.
Pull out all major appliances so that you can vacuum behind and under them.
Reverse your ceiling fans. Because hot air rises, reversing fans and forcing hot air down during the winter months is the way to go.
Place weather-strip around doors, and caulk around windows.
Help Prevent Frozen Pipes
Close all crawlspace vents if you haven't already don so. (A good rule of thumb is to close vents at Thanksgiving and open them at Easter)
Set your thermostat to at least 60 degrees (especially if you will be away). Leave your bathroom and kitchen cabinet doors open to warm exposed pipes.
Disconnect outdoor hoses, and turn off and drain water from exterior faucets, if you haven’t already done so.
These are just a few ideas to get you started. Now that you have accomplished this list, you can put together your own list for each month so that you never get behind.
